FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Hardwood Floor Resurfacing?

Resurfacing is our signature service that gently sands away light scratches, scuffs, ground-in dirt, and dullness. It does NOT affect the color of the wood (other than brightening) and does NOT extensively sand away precious wood surfaces. Not only is this process effective on all types of wood, but it is also our most budget-friendly option. It starts at only 99¢ per square foot. Most projects can be completed in hours, rather than days.

What is Hardwood Floor Refinishing?
In the process of refinishing, we meticulously sand your floors until they reach their natural bare state. We’ll then apply a new wood stain using the color of your preference. To ensure a durable and long-lasting finish, we follow it up with a polyurethane coating. If you opt for oil-based polyurethane, we will expertly apply two coats, with a careful light sanding performed between each coat. With water-based poly, 3 coats are used with light sanding between coats 1 and 2 and scuffing between coats 2 and 3. Of course, we “tack” (clean the dust) prior to each coat. This is the method most are familiar with, and it takes roughly 2-4 days to complete. In the end, you’ll have the floors of your dreams and a finish that is close to perfect! With our low prices, hardwood floor refinishing with Fabulous Floors Milwaukee is the most affordable route by far.
I Have a Few Really Deep Scratches, Do I Need Resurfacing or Refinishing?
We’ll walk you through the benefits of each service to make sure you choose the right fit your wants and needs. A deep scratch here and there may not be a bad thing. Some folks call it character, some turn it into a story, some simply don’t see the “value added” with the added expense of removing the deep scars. If you have pets or children, then removing ALL scratches may very well be a temporary thing. Maybe resurfacing is the right direction, maybe all you need to do is to protect your long-term investment. Call us for help, and know we’ll never try to upsell you on a service that you don’t need.
Can You Fix Warping?

Our refinishing service can typically correct some warping, but it all depends on the scope of the project and severity of your floor damage. You can see examples of successful warping correction in our before and after gallery. Give us a call today to discuss your project needs to see if we can fix your warping floorboards!

I Have Pet Stains On My Hardwood Floors, Can You Fix It?
Cleaning pet accidents when they are fresh is the key to maintaining your hardwood floors. If cleaning with the steps outlined in the next section doesn’t fix the problem area, then the urine has probably soaked into your flooring and more serious hardwood floor restoration work will be required. We are confident in our ability to conquer most pet stains, but contact us to determine the severity of your stain.
What Do I Use To Clean Deep Stains On My Hardwood Floors?
White vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). Prepare a spray bottle for little, everyday accidents and a bucket for the bigger stains. Scrub stains thoroughly. After you’re sure it’s clean, wipe it completely dry. Then, dry it again. Beware of ammonia in cleaners; pet urine actually contains ammonia, and if your pet smells the ammonia where they last had an accident, they are more likely to want to relieve themselves in that same spot next time.
Is Your Process Really Dust Free?
Our floor restoration process creates less dust than other methods because our equipment mounted vacuums typically remove most of the generated dust. What remains is a very light coating of dust on the floor, but no airborne dust is generated. The remaining dust on the floor is vacuumed up, and the surface is cleaned with tack rags.
Is Your Process Odorless?
For resurfacing, we use only waterborne products that are “Greenguard” certified. The only smell is a very light, pleasant aroma.
How much does it cost to refinish or resurface hardwood floors?
It really depends on the size and scope of the project. With all of our experience, we offer free quotes over the phone so please give us a call today to find out how much your specific job can cost.
