In the process of refinishing, we meticulously sand your floors until they reach their natural bare state. We’ll then apply a new wood stain using the color of your preference. To ensure a durable and long-lasting finish, we follow it up with a polyurethane coating. If you opt for oil-based polyurethane, we will expertly apply two coats, with a careful light sanding performed between each coat. With water-based poly, 3 coats are used with light sanding between coats 1 and 2 and scuffing between coats 2 and 3. Of course, we “tack” (clean the dust) prior to each coat. This is the method most are familiar with, and it takes roughly 2-4 days to complete. In the end, you’ll have the floors of your dreams and a finish that is close to perfect! Cleaning pet accidents when they are fresh is the key to maintaining your hardwood floors. If cleaning with the steps outlined in the next section doesn’t fix the problem area, then the urine has probably soaked into your flooring and more serious hardwood floor restoration work will be required. White vinegar and water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). Prepare a spray bottle for little, everyday accidents and a bucket for the bigger stains. Scrub stains thoroughly. After you’re sure it’s clean, wipe it completely dry. Then, dry it again. Beware of ammonia in cleaners; pet urine actually contains ammonia, and if your pet smells the ammonia where they last had an accident, they are more likely to want to relieve themselves in that same spot next time.

Our floor restoration process creates less dust than other methods because our equipment mounted vacuums typically remove most of the generated dust. What remains is a very light coating of dust on the floor, but no airborne dust is generated. The remaining dust on the floor is vacuumed up, and the surface is cleaned with tack rags.
